Benefits derived from mutualisms are often highly dependent on the environment, so that an association that might be beneficial in some environments might not be in other environments. Given that the environment can be variable both through space and through time, I will explore how such changing environmental conditions affect mutualistic interactions and their evolutionary dynamics, using a theoretical model.
