PS 72-91: On the occurrence of pests on six materials of spices and aromatic medical plants, survey, populations, and diversity in species

Mohsen S. Tadros Sr., KAFR EL-SHEIKH UNIVERSITY

The selected materials were two spices;anise,[Pimpernella anisum,[L.]and cumin,[Cuminum cyminum,[L.],and four aromatic and medical plants;fenugreek,[Trigonella foneum-graecum,[L.],liquarice,[Glycyrrhiza glabra,[L.],wormseed,[Artemisia cina,[L.],and rosella,[Hibiscus sabdariffa,[l.] Samples of 150 Kg. were purchased from the local supermarkets and brought to the acarology laboratory ,Dept. of economic entomology, Faculty of Agriculture,Kafr el-Sheikk University,Egypt;149 Km. to the north east of C airo.all material was thermally treated to kill all pests that might be occurring within the samples. every material was divided into three parts representing   3 replicates. Each of which  sample have to be saved in a big jar.All samples were examed twice monthly through the whole time experiment to evaluate the moving alive instars of the occurring pests,[mites & insects].Batteries of modified Tullegran funnels were used for 48 hrs. Results revealed in recording 27 pests;14 were mite species, while 13 were insect species.Mites represented 75.40% of the total recorded pests, while insect species 24.60%. The recorded Acari species are :Acarus siro,[L.],Caloglyphus beta,[Attia],Tyrophagus putrescentiae,[Shrank],Rhizoglyphus spp.,Glycyphagus destructor,[Schrank],Acaropsellina sollers,[Rohd.]Cheletomorpha lepidopterorum,[Shaw],Cunaxa spp.,Bdella spp.,Haemolaelapus casalis,[Berlese], Tarsonomous spp., Amblysieus spp.On the other hand ,the recorded insect species are : , Stegobium paniceum,[L.],Tribolium confusum [J.DU VAL.],T.castaneum,[Herbest],Tenebrio molitor,[L.]Trogium pulsatorium,[L.]Cryptolestes ferrugineus,[Stephl.],Sitophilus oryzae,[L.],Sitotroga crealella,[Oliv.],Phlebotomus spp., Monomoriumspp.,Trogoderma granarium,[Everts].Spices were much susceptable for pest infestation than aromatic medical plants.P opulation studies showed un stable curve ,peaks and declies within the whole examined materials. Diversity  between species ans also between familes was clear and was calculated after, [S.W.]
