SS 21 - "No Child Left Indoors": An Action Plan for Future Involvement by ESA Members
Young people need links to nature, but the opportunities for getting kids outdoors are diminishing. As ecologists, we must be exemplary in our behavior to prioritize linking young people with their environment. This can be achieved by dedicating a portion of our research time to ecology education outreach to youth. This special session is a follow-up to the 2007 San Jose ESA symposium, “No Child Left Indoors: Ecologists Linking Young People With Nature”, which featured author Richard Louv and ecologists sharing experiences with informal science education. Participants at this session will help to develop an action plan on how ecologists can work toward an ESA education goal of “No Child Left Indoors” by 2015.
