OOS 28-1: Management effects on ecosystem services in the face of environmental variability: Introduction

William K. Lauenroth, University of Wyoming

Background/Question/Methods

The past several decades has witnessed a deluge of research and analysis on the scientific effects of climate variability and change on ecosystems. Much less attention has been paid to potential effects on the interactions among environmental variability, ecosystem services and the management of ecosystems. This session will explore some of the implications of these interactions for land and water managers and policy makers.

Results/Conclusions

Each of the speakers in this session will address a slightly different aspect of the interactions of environmental variability with ecosystem services and management. The examples to be presented include riverine, grassland and forested ecosystems.
