Teaching Issues and Experiments in Ecology (TIEE; tiee.esa.org) was established in 2004 with support from the National Science Foundation. This workshop is an introduction to how to use TIEE in ecology and biology teaching and how to submit an Experiment, Issue, or Research paper. TIEE is a peer-reviewed web-based collection of ecological educational materials and a publication of the ESA. It is a resource for busy ecology faculty who are looking for new ways to reach their students with active, inquiry-based approaches and genuine data, or who perhaps want to learn more about teaching and learning. Three sections - Experiments, Issues, and Teaching - are designed to meet this broad range of needs. Experiments are for lab sections of courses, and Issues can be used in lecture, lab, and for homework. Both include background information on the topic addressed, instructions for students, and notes to faculty. There are many links from both Experiments and Issues to the Teaching section which includes web-based resources, essays, and tutorials. In 2007 we added a new section, Research, for authors to publish research on ecology teaching. Over 70 authors have published in TIEE, including numerous graduate students wishing to include ecology teaching and learning in their thesis work. Lunch will not be served, bring your own lunch!
