Agricultural intensification is usually seen as bad for ecosystems and ecosystem services. This perspective comes from areas with high yields and food security where too many inputs are applied.  The situation in Sub-Saharan Africa is far different; yields are low, food insecurity is high, and too few inputs are applied.  Increased inputs, especially of nutrients, will result in higher yields, food security AND improvements in most ecosystem services.
