As ecologists, we know how important relationships are – except when it comes to our relationships with other people. During the scientific training process, relationship skills like active listening and conflict resolution are generally not considered important, and certainly take a back seat to technical knowledge. Sometimes academic training even trains our relational skills right out us. However, as a practitioner, relational capacity plays a huge role in not only your job satisfaction, but also in your success. Come gain an appreciation for how human relationships drive the world, and how we can keep them from driving us crazy.
