Ecology education should be active, diverse, and exciting!  We waste time if we simply cover content. Instead, we should be uncovering content to reveal underlying questions, the scientific method, and the diverse community of scientists who spend their time as ecological detectives. We should teach the secret handshakes of scientific culture to welcome a diverse population into our community and to help them develop cultural capital. And, we must share our passion for ecology by engaging students in putting together the pieces of the ecological puzzle to help them constructs their own understanding.
