Michigan State University's Kellogg Biological Station (KBS) has a strong K-12 outreach program with teachers and students enrolled in traditional K-12 classes. Inspired by a visit from Dr. Nalini Nadkarni, we have established partnership with a local alternative high school teacher to develop materials for students enrolled in ‘alternative' high school. Our goal is to develop hands-on, independent modules based on research done at KBS to complement the existing computer-based lessons used by students to meet the required learning goals in biology. We will share experiences, challenges and ideas for expanding this program.
