Background/Question/Methods

California energy policy’s increasing focus on low-carbon energy resources introduces new ecological considerations in energy regulation development and communication. New types of ecological and economic literacy are necessary for public engagement and understanding of policymakers’ decisions.

Results/Conclusions

This talk will discuss what tools and forums California energy state regulators use to facilitate public ecological literacy. In particular, examples from renewable energy procurement and power plant siting will highlight opportunities and challenges and the role for ecologists in the regulatory process.
