In a discipline driven by successful collaborations, why do edited volumes in ecology (and the life sciences in general) suffer from lack of cohesion, great disparity in content, and meager support from colleagues, students, and bookstores? Help resuscitate their reputation by learning how to avoid some of the common pitfalls multi-authored volumes encounter. Through careful, and early, planning-from selection of topic to contributors to publisher-edited volumes can be innovative, successful, and timely contributions to the literature and science of ecology. University of Chicago Press Editor Christie Henry will speak to some of the ways editors at Chicago have survived experiments in editing, to ensure these collaborations remain a critical component of the literary ecosystem.
