Thursday, August 9, 2007: 11:30 AM-1:15 PM
University Rm, San Jose Hilton
Organizer:
Jennifer Riem, Ecological Society of America
Co-organizer:
Kenneth M. Klemow, Wilkes University

Group Name: EcoEd.net, ESA’s newly renovated digital teaching library, provides ecology educators with immediate, organized access to high-quality teaching resources that are peer-reviewed for scientific accuracy and instructional value. EcoEd.net contains a variety of resources for ecology courses, such as photographs, tables and figures, articles, syllabi, and laboratory exercises. This workshop will provide an overview of the teaching resources available from EcoEd.net, with particular emphasis on the library’s recently expanded collection of high-quality digital images. An initial presentation will introduce participants to new features of the library. Participants will be shown how to access the website, browse for resources, search the catalog by keyword, and download files. Participants will also learn how they can contribute their own ecology images to EcoEd.net for peer review and possible inclusion in the library. This workshop is an opportunity for ecologists interested in incorporating digital resources into their teaching to explore the resources within EcoEd.net and offer feedback on its new features. Participants are requested to bring their own laptops, preferably with wireless capability. EcoEd.net is part of the biology pathway (BEN; http://www.biosciednet.org) of the National Science Digital Library (NSDL; http://www.nsdl.org), both of which are funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). ESA is a founding member of BEN, which is coordinated by the America Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
