SS 12 - Long-Term Legacy Data in the Ecotrends Project: Historical Context and Clues to Future Dynamics Under Global Change
Long-term ecological data are invaluable in providing historical context for future dynamics, and insights to future dynamics under global change. However, these data are typically not easily accessible for the many sites, drivers, and response variables needed for critical global change questions. The EcoTrends Project was started in 2004 to synthesize and make easily web-accessible long-term data from diverse sites (aquatic, marine, forests, grasslands, deserts, arctic and alpine, urban)for four main themes (disturbances, biogeochemistry, climate, biotic responses, human population and economy). In this session, we will first briefly present the status of the project in terms of sites, data, and long-term trends across sites. We will then discuss opportunities for synthesis, and for new sites and datasets to be added to the project. Researchers with long-term datasets interested in cross-site synthesis and open data access are particularly encouraged to attend.
