There is growing demand on conservation and natural resource managers to develop adaptive management responses to climate change. At the same time, managers are being asked to understand and interpret the increasing, and sometimes contradictory, information that is available regarding potential future climate change and its effects on species and ecosystems. This workshop will discuss strategies for interpreting and applying climate change information to address conservation and natural resource management questions. In the first part of the workshop, we will provide a brief overview of climate change information and describe general guidelines for identifying potential management actions to address species and ecosystem vulnerabilities to climate change. We will also discuss some of the limitations associated with climate change information, including issues of climate data uncertainty, for participants to consider when developing management plans. The second part of the workshop will consist of an interactive discussion with workshop participants using examples of applying climate change information to management questions in the Pacific Northwest. At the end of the workshop, participants will be provided with a list of climate change resources for additional reference. The workshop will be led by conservation and natural resource managers and scientists from the Pacific Northwest. Lunch will not be served, bring your own lunch!
