This richness of treeline research has resulted in general understandings about treeline patterns and the processes that are responsible for them. Advances in understanding treeline patterns and processes going forward will require an integration of different methodological approaches and an appreciation of the different questions being asked. The North American Treeline Network strives to foster interdisciplinary research to advance the understanding of alpine and Arctic treelines by creating a scientific network of North American researchers that will link with others in Europe. We plan to promote training for early career treeline scientists and foster treeline research through transdisciplinary approaches.
