Scientists are uniquely positioned to effectively influence policy decisions.  While young scientists are increasingly interested in engaging policy, many well-established scientists continue to hesitate to lend their name to policy advocacy efforts.  As a scientist for an advocacy organization, I help build relationships with academic scientists to encourage them to engage in critical policy issues.  In this talk, I will address the importance of establishing trust, appreciating different styles and approaches between science and policy, and finding just the right avenue for bringing your science expertise to the policy issue at hand.
