Ecology studies the relationships among living and non-living components. Ecological Network Analysis (ENA) provides a "macroscopic" view of relationships that captures system-wide information that is otherwise lost through reductionistic approaches. For example, ENA has been used to uncover the dominance of indirect pathways in the dynamics of both natural and urban systems. This talk will both introduce the new, free software package, enaR, and discuss its potential to advance the study of ecological networks through open-source software development and the integration of theory and analytical tools that are currently divided.
