Indicators synthesize and visually present data to understand changes in things we care about. We have developed a prototype National Climate Indicator System (NCIS), which includes indicators of climate changes, impacts, vulnerabilities and preparedness. NCIS was created in collaboration with 200+ physical, ecological, and social scientists from across the Federal government, academic institutions, and the private sector. With this system, we’re aiming to inform adaptation and mitigation decisions. And our climate indicator system has been carefully prepared in a new way – using stakeholder input and continuous evaluation to build out the system with users.
