Tuesday, August 9, 2016: 11:30 AM-1:15 PM
Grand Blrm AB, Hilton Marina
Organizer:
Kelsey E. Fisher, Chair, ESA Student Section
Co-organizer:
Winslow D. Hansen, ESA Student Section Chair
“I’m graduating undergrad soon, now what?” Undergraduate students represent an increasing proportion of ESA meeting attendees and are an important demographic in the field of ecology. Undergraduates have unique questions about how to navigate ecology as a career, including getting into graduate school, deciding what subject to study, and what a career in ecology looks like. The purpose of this workshop is to provide a place for undergraduate students to meet one another, learn about the graduate application process, and obtain advice from current graduate students through a presentation of tips for success and a graduate student panel discussion about person experiences. Topics covered will include, but are not limited to:

  • Networking with fellow undergraduate students
  • A day in the life of a graduate student
  • Moving to new places and meeting new people
  • Applying to graduate school
  • Connecting with potential graduate research advisors

Learn tips to transition from an undergraduate student to a successful young professional along side other undergraduate students facing the same challenges.

Registration Fee: $0
