Archbold Biological Station (www.archbold-station.org) is one of the most celebrated field stations in North America. Participants will meet Archbold scientists and tour the Florida scrub habitat, a National Natural Landmark and  home to many species of plants and animals found nowhere else on Earth. Opportunities abound to observe Florida Scrub-Jays, Gopher Tortoises, and an array of federally listed plants.  There will be behind the scenes tours of Archbold facilities, including the collections. The buildings are listed on the  National Historic Register and guests will learn about the extraordinary history of the land, the buildings, and the organization. Visitors will stay overnight in Archbold’ s new Lodge and Learning Center, the 12th  LEED Platinum green building in Florida.  Social events will include a swimming break at Lake Annie, one of the most cherished limnological research sites in the country. There are many opportunities for personal exploration along the nature trails. On the Sunday morning we will offer a one-of-a-kind swamp buggy tour of Buck Island Ranch, site of the MacArthur Agro-ecology Research Center. An unforgettable experience in a novel environment where you can learn about wild Florida embedded within the working cattle ranches of the headwaters of the Everglades.
