To better predict and manage ecosystem services, researchers have recently begun developing models structured around microbial traits. These models are capable of addressing ecosystem feedbacks from shifts in microbial communities, and in doing so, improve their accuracy. However, in order to parameterize them, we need better information regarding (1) which traits are critical to model and (2) how these traits vary among microbial groups. In this Ignite talk, I will address both questions in respect to fungi.
