Small, decentralized water infrastructure if integrated into our urban communities can alter our relationship with water, increase efficiency, reduce energy investment, enhance resilience and protect ecosystems. Taking a truly integrated approach to water infrastructure and water management requires adjustments to the scale of our project conceptualization, the sequence of our design process, our permitting approach, and the technologies we use to manage stormwater and treat wastewater. A holistic approach varies by project and site, but one local example is the integrated water systems at Hassalo on 8th project in Portland, Oregon.
