In October 2015, leaders from Maine’s research, fishing and aquaculture sectors, gathered at the University of Maine's marine laboratory, Darling Marine Center. The goal was to envision a new way of working together, one that fully leveraged science benefit marine industries and coastal communities. The group sketched out a 10-year plan to catalyze science, education, and infrastructure investments that would facilitate business development, accelerate innovation, assess and prevent risks to marine resource and ecosystem health. Ecological understanding is central to achieving the Alliance's lofty goals. Translating this understanding into action will be a central task in the years to come.
