How can we empower high school students to seek data-driven answers to questions, including those relevant to their daily lives? And, if we train students in how to access, work with, and present data, does that make them more likely to pursue a career in science? I will share our experience hosting a data science workshop for high school students in a program that seeks to diversify the undergraduate student body at the University of Michigan. Our goal is to train students to identify and address questions relevant to them and to communicate their results to their peers.
