Background/Question/Methods

and Results/Conclusions

The forest products industry has long sought to balance environmental, financial and societal considerations to ensure that forest products companies’ operations are sustainable over the long-term.  The National Council for Air and Stream Improvement, Inc. (NCASI) is a non-profit environmental research organization funded by the forest products industry to help member companies achieve their environmental goals.  Through its research investigations, surveys, and other information gathering activities, NCASI helps its member companies address challenges and opportunities related to the environment and ensure that environmental decision-making at many different levels is based on technical information of the highest possible quality.  This presentation will provide an overview of the NCASI forestry program and provide examples of technical studies and other activities addressing technical questions related to sustainable wood procurement and sustainable forestry, threatened / endangered species and other high-priority species, forest water and wetland issues, silvicultural chemicals, and biomass energy / climate change.
