Speaker:
Osprey Orielle Lake, State of the World Forum
As the Director of State of the World Forum’s 2020 Climate Change Women’s Caucus, and a renowned international artist, Osprey Orielle Lake is uniquely positioned to create a dynamic multimedia presentation that reflects some of the worldviews, attitudes and thinking (or lack of it) that brought us to the peril of global warming in the first place. In addition to the changes required in our energy and economic systems, there is also the dramatic need for transformation in our personal and cultural values and choices. This provocative combination of film, imagery and the spoken word will bring us to an understanding of global warming from the perspective of systemic change in society. There is mounting scientific evidence of an essential need for humans to feel a connection to the natural world. Ecologists led by the biologist, E. O. Wilson, formed the “Biophilia Hypothesis” stating that people deprived of contact with nature decline in well-being and lose the capacity to live sustainably on the earth. New narratives will be discussed and public art monuments will be shown that address creating sustainable and resilient communities that reconnect urban dwellers with the natural world and with each other. Al Gore states: “The only meaningful and effective solutions to the climate crisis involve massive changes in human behavior and thinking.” Osprey will explore potential changes in personal lifestyle, worldviews, leadership and education.
