The National Ecological Observatory will not only collect and distribute primary data, it wil also imlement a number of complex algorithms and models to produce high-level data products (similar to some of the familiar NASA satellite data products) to provide usable information for interdsciplinary research and education. These products wil not only provide usable continental scale information, but will serve as prototypes of the types of additional analyses that PIs may eventually create using the Observatory.
Results/Conclusions . Examples of high-level data products include national estimates of key species distributions, carbon and energy fluxes and disease prevalence. The NEON nformation system is designed as an end-to-end system, providing not just primary data to specialists but summarized and integrated data to enable a new generation of ecological science.
