This workshop works in tandem with “Getting Ahead in Graduate School”. Specifically targeted towards senior graduate students and Postdocs, this workshop will focus on the current and expanding crisis in the job and career market for academic scientists, and how early-career scientists can best prepare for this challenge. You will learn: • How to orchestrate a personal career plan and develop a Plan B and Plan C for contingencies; • What early-career scientists should do now to enhance your CVs and research reputations; • What traditional and non-traditional career opportunities are available; • How to access and assess “hidden” job opportunities; • what “soft skills” you should hone; • the biggest mistakes postdocs can make and how to avoid them; • how to develop a networking strategy that delivers real results; • how you can leverage your postdoc appointment to that you are positioned for success in the field. • Lunch will not be served, bring your own lunch!
