Over the past decade we've seen an explosion of tools, methods, and approaches to analyzing both small and data of unusual size. These approaches, combined with data deposition requirements for most journals should make it exceedingly easy to improve algorithms and carry out powerful syntheses (beyond meta-analyses). Yet here are we are in 2014 using outdated approaches and constantly reinventing wheels. In this talk I'll examine a few reasons why we, as a community, are still stuck in the past. I'll also showcase examples where researchers have set a high bar that the rest of us should strive towards.
