New federated online data repositories such as those represented by the Data Observation Network for Earth and it's participating Member Nodes can make huge volumes of diverse data available to investigators. This provides great opportunity for retrospective and meta analyses drawing conclusions from perhaps hundreds of data sets, likely collected different investigators. Making such data available is relatively straightforward. However, integrating those datasets while ensuring integrity of results is the true challenge, and one that can be made significantly more tractable by both both manual and automated techniques.
